Something to Howl About?

Anime Articles - theOtaku.com: "Thank you so much Mr. Miyazaki. You have succeeded, once again, in creating another wonderful piece of entertainment. Howl's Moving Castle is a lovely story ever so loosely based on the equally lovely book, similarly titled "Howl's Moving Castle" by Diana Wynne Jones. But that's not what I'm here to talk to you about. I'm here concerning the morals in the film. So, off we go to find truth in the world of Howl's Moving Castle.

Well, let us start with the simple one. Greed is something you don't want to fall subject to. This is embodied by the rather large and rubberized looking Witch of the Waste. If you paid close attention, you would know that, at one point in time, Howl had been in love with her. Then, discovering that she wasn't all that she cracked up to be, he left her. Later on then, when the Witch had been reduced to a blithering old woman, and she was asked by Sophie if she had ever been in love, the Witch responded "Yes, and I still am." Whoa, there is one big tip-off there. She still loves Howl, and with Sophie being in love with him, and more than likely vise-versa, there was no chance of them getting back together. That's why she wanted his heart, and she nearly killed him because she wanted him to be hers and only hers."

I love a good triangle...
