Venice International Film Festival

Anime News Network - Venice International Film Festival Lineup Announced: "Most of the line-up for the 62nd Venice International Film Festival has been announced. While there are no Japanese movies of any sort in competition for the prestigious Golden Lion, there will be several films screened out of competition, as well as one very special award for Hayao Miyazaki.

Earlier this year it was announced that Hayao Miyazaki would be presented with a special Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at this year's festival. As a part of the special event honoring Miyazaki, the festival will screen Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso and On Your Mark.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children will again be screened this year, however this time it will be screened in it's 90-minute entirety. Last year only the short 30-minute version was screened.

In addition, there is a full special retrospective on Japanese Cinema from 1926 to 1978 called 'the secret history of japanese cinema.' However the festival has yet to announce the retrospective's line-up, it is unknown if any animation will be featured.

The only other Japanese film currently known to be included in the festival will be Takashi Miike's Yokai Daisenso remake.

If you're in Italy...this might be a great stop..
